What is
Shoebox Scanning?

The word "Scanning" is a name of
method that turns Photos, Pictures or Slides
into digital format.
The whole process of turning Photos, Pickers
or Slides to digital files is called "Digitizing".
There are many types of "Digital files"(such
as Jpeg, Tiff)
but all of them can be viewed and editable on
PC or Mac.
The typical and most popular digital graphic
file format is called Jpeg
file.
This Jpeg (or often spelled Jpg) file can be
played on a DVD player that you can watch on
TV or
E-mail, Web sharing such as Facebook, Twitters
or Youtube.
Shoebox
Scan System is a quality
multiple Photo or Picture scanning system developed
by Kodak.
Hundreds or thousands of photos will be stored
on a CD, DVD or on your Hard Drive.
The photos will be preserved, archived and stored
for generations to come.

Basic
plan:
Loose photos will be scanned
at 300 dpi, digitized and saved as jpg files on a CD/DVD.
The 300 dpi scan is good for HD TV viewing, PC/Mac
computer viewing and quality photo print of the original
size,
E-mail, Web photo sharing, uploading to Facebook or other
Web site.
If
you want higher resolution (larger
file size) such as
600 dpi, please see options.

Since all our Photo scan is processed at our New York
studio, the schedule can be flexible.
Sometimes our Photo scanners are busier than normal
or might have extra capacity in other days.
Please contact
us if you need to have your Photos scanned in timely
manner.

Unlike Jpeg file which compresses image to compact,
Tiff is a no compression file saving system.
Pro:
1. In theory, uncompressed file system has no
quality loss when saving.
2. You can change from Tiff to Jpeg file with
no quality loss.
Con's:
1. It is NOT good for E-mail, Web upload
nor Web sharing, because file size is very big.
2. Tiff files are big that often take long time
to open, edit or organize them.
3. In the real world, among 5mb to 8mb graphic
files, it is very difficult, if not impossible,
to tell the difference between Jpeg and Tiff file.

DVD Slide Show.- $29.95 extra.
You can enjoy old photos as a DVD movie on your
DVD player or on your PC.
Each image will come and go automatically.
You can use pause bottom on a remote control to
stop an image.
With this option, you are getting two discs:
1) One disk has original data in jpeg format.
2) Another disk is a DVD movie disc.
We can put a simple title on the DVD menu, like:
" Uncle James's Old Slides"
Custom background music - $15.00 additional.
Please provide us your music CD or Mp3 files.

Yes.
All scanning job is done right at our lab in Manhattan, New
York, NY.
No photos will be sent out.
No chance of lost on transit. Your privacy is well kept.

We respect your privacy and confidentiality sincerity and
deeply.
Being in photo business since 1971, no other companies are
better than us to control customers' information.
-1. Most jobs done in-house by experienced professional technicians.
-2. The technician will only see photos
what's necessary for quality control.
-3. Once a work is done, all temporary
files( if any ) will be automatically deleted from our system.
To put it in writing, we have our Confidentiality/Non-Disclosure
Agreement Form ready for you.
You can download the form, type in your (company) name and
address, and print two copies.
Sign and date both, then bring the forms with your work.
We will sign them both and return one copy for you.

| Can you scan my
photos in particular order? |

Unfortunately No.
Photos have to be sorted by their sizes, orientation, thickness
or conditions to obtain best scanning result.
We sometimes have to scan a photo multiple times for quality
control.
We cannot keep the photos in a certain order.

| Can I combine 35mm Slides
and/or 35mm Negative with photos for volume discount? |

Unfortunately No.
Photos, slides or negatives will be scanned differently.
Each will be counted separately

| How
big digital files are they on the CD/DVD? |
| |
As a basic plan, your photos will be scanned at 300 dpi and
saved as jpg files on a disc.
For example, a 4x6 photo will be digitized to about 6mb file,
then compressed to a 600 - 200kb size in jpeg format.
By using this compressing technique called jpeg format, we
can put
hundreds or thousands photos on a CD or DVD.
These files can be used for making good photos about the same
size or a little bigger.
Also it is good for E-mail, Web sharing or graphic editing
and enjoy on a big TV screen.

| Can you scan at
higher than 300 dpi resolution? |

Yes.
We can scan at 600 dpi, which means you will get 4 times bigger
files.
A 4x6 photo is about 24mb in original then compressed to a
2mb- 500kb file.
50 % additional charge applies
This will be a good idea if you plan to:
1. print larger than double the size of the original.
2. crop a portion of the original..

| What format digital
file are they? |

Jpeg files.
However, we can save them in uncompressed Tiff files with
50 % additional charge.
In real world, with these rather small files (up to 8x10 originals),
it doesn't make much of quality difference between Jpeg and
Tiff.

| What am I getting
with the basic Shoebox Scan plan? |

A CD or DVD with digital photo data (jpeg files) on.
The CD/DVD can be played on you PC/Mac and make copies freely.

| Can
I play Shoebox Scan CD on my DVD player ? |
| |
Unless you order a movie DVD as an option, the answer is
basically No.
Because the files on the CD/DVD are still images of your photos.
They are not encoded (programed) to play as a "movie"
on your DVD player.
However, there are two ways to make the data file play:
1. You can order a Movie DVD option at $29.95 extra.
or
-2. There are some DVD players that "Play" jpg files
as if they are movie file.
Please check your DVD player's manual for more details.

you use my music as background music for my DVD movie? |

Yes.
With an additional $15.00, we can put your music on the DVD.
Please provide us with your music CD or Mp3 files.

you put a title on the Shoebox Scan DVD movie? |

Yes.
The title should be simple and short,
like David's Family Photo or John & Kim's Wedding.

| How big or small
photos can you scan? |
| |
Regular prices apply to photos from wallet size( 2 1/2 x
3 1/2) to 8x10.
Smaller than wallet size has to be scanned by hand - $2.95
each.
Bigger than 8x10 photo up to 11x 14 - $15.00 each.

| Can you scan
photos in a photo album? |

No.
Please take them out from the albums before submitting to
us.

| Does
Shoebox Scan services come with money back guarantee? |

No.
Because once the CD/DVD is taken out from the store, it can
be easily copied.
As a company policy, we don't accept money back request on
any CD/DVD orders.
No exceptions.

| How
long does it take? |
| |
Typical turnaround schedule is as follows:
1- 100 photos will be done within a day or two
Over 100 to 500 photos will take a couple of days.
Over 500 to 2000 photo will take about a week.
Actual turn around time depends, so please contact
us if you have a project.
All jobs are done in house so we will try our best to meet
your time schedule.

OF LIABILITY Submitting film, print, slide,
digital file or tape to this firm for processing, an order constitutes
an AGREEMENT by you that any damages or loss by our company,
subsidiary, or agent, even though due to negligence or other
fault of our company, subsidiary or agent, will only entitle
you to credit for a like amount of future processing by us.
Except for such consideration, the acceptance is without other
warranty or liability, and recovery for any incidental or consequential
damages is excluded.
Our firm is not responsible for any material left over 14 business
days. All the prices quoted are subject change without notice. |
